Performance Status Nutrition
Sherri Lewis, DCN, RDN, LD/N, FAND
I am a Registered Dietitian with more than 35 years of experience in clinical nutrition, research and education. I worked in both the hospital and clinic setting working with patients with multiple diseases including diabetes, cancer, kidney and heart disease. Specialties included interventions for patients receiving multiple cancer treatments with the goal to optimize performance status and quality of life.
I am a researcher who participated in projects ranging from cancer nutrition intervention studies to body composition assessments of active-duty special forces and competitive teenage athletes.
I am the mother of an overtrained athlete. Fighting inflammation is very personal to me. I spent 14 years researching and advocating with and for my daughter Lillie, a competitive swimmer from 9 - 22 years of age, all while suffering with undiagnosed chronic fatigue syndrome. After proper diagnosis and innovative interventions that emphasize recovery, she is able to pursue her own dreams of researching inflammation and cancer immunology. Our goal is to help others learn what took us so long to realize.
I am a cancer patient myself. I worked in oncology clinics for decades yet was not prepared for the advanced stage 4 cancer diagnosis I received in 2024. If it were not for the advances in cancer immunology, I would not be alive today to share my experience with you. I had an advanced cancer that allowed a mere 10-month life expectancy if diagnosed just 5-10 years ago. Thankfully, I have no evidence of disease and am thriving with an excellent performance status. I believe that the more we learn about our unique immune systems and individualized care is provided to each of us, we all can thrive even with the most devastating illnesses.
Our goal at Performance Status Nutrition is to help others understand immunity during stress, the importance of nutrition and recovery to increase quality of life while navigating your personal journey - be it athletic competition or chronic illness.
